Lottery Online – Is Online Gambling Legal?

Those who want to play the lottery can do so through several websites that provide all the information they need to play the game. These websites also allow players to purchase tickets online securely and quickly.

The lottery is one of the oldest forms of legal gambling in the United States. In fact, it is believed that the first lottery records were recorded in Ancient China. These records helped finance important government projects in the Han Dynasty.

Lotteries are usually organized by a state. Some states operate their own state-wide lotteries while others defer to third-party applications. Generally, lottery tickets are sold by authorized retailers. Some states even have lottery online apps.

Many countries are outlawing non-state lotteries. However, a handful of Northeastern states are looking to legalize online lotteries.

The first US state to introduce a lottery was New Hampshire. The state launched its lottery last summer and it is in the process of legalizing online lottery sales.

The legal landscape has shifted since the Department of Justice revised its opinion on the Wire Act in 2011. It now considers online lotteries legal as long as they are operated within state borders. This has allowed states like Massachusetts and New Jersey to launch online lotteries.

There are currently six states in the US that permit online lottery sales. These states are Pennsylvania, California, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Michigan. Many more states are considering legalizing online lottery sales in the future.
